The Observatory

The aim of the observatory is to pay homage to the great mountain climbing tradition in Lecco and to spread awareness about why it started here and why it has developed in the way it has here, and to highlight the inseparable link between this tradition and the social, cultural, economic and environmental context of the area.

In the 1950s, the people of Lecco, inspired by charismatic characters such as Carlo Mauri, Casimiro Ferrari and so many more that it is impossible to name them all, continued to open up new routes in the Alps and brought their passion and skill to some of the most difficult mountains in the world, including the south face of McKinley in Alaska or and Cerro Torre in Patagonia, making their mark on the story of mountaineering on a world level.
